Synopsis
For Detective Inspector Orla McLeod, violence is a way of life. As a child, her own world was ripped apart by a brutal, unforgettable moment of terror. So when the Special Branch operation she is spearheading goes disastrously wrong, she'll do everything she can to protect the nine year-old boy caught in the cross fire. Orla spirits Jamie away to the only place she feels safe; a lonely cottage on the shoulder of a snow-capped Scottish mountain. But there will be no sanctuary for them in the Highlands. Like Orla, the hunter who pursues them knows exactly what to do to survive.

Powerful, surprising, intelligent crime writing…. It has all the right elements: damaged and complex characters on both sides of the law; sleep-disturbing images of the criminal imagination; and a complex, unforgiving plot. Dark, taut and edgy, Manda Scott's debut thriller exerts an emotional grip that tightens to a twisting stranglehold. Has the truth and honesty – and pain – of a cut made with a well-honed blade. ...The Washington Times

It's been a while since a thriller came down the pile with the breathlessness of Ludlum and the literary heft of Le Carré. Manda Scott pulls off this feat with the terrific No Good Deed. ...SF Chronicle

Orla McLeod is a remarkably tough and touching creation Not many crime writers can move so quickly and deeply into the hearts of their characters, or their readers. ...Chicago Tribune.

As an avid reader of books by Cornwell, Baldacci, O'Shaughnessy & James Patterson, I was stunned by the brutality of Orla McLeod's world, and just as fascinated. I have never read another book like No Good Deed, but wish I could. This Canadian looks forward to finding another Manda Scott novel and enjoying it equally as much as this one. Brava! [and I like your dogs, too :)] ...Sandy Borradaile
