Synopsis
Medics have a way of organising cases. The first one you see is: 'in my experience'. Two becomes 'case after case'. Three is a series. In medicine, as in crime, three is the magic number that makes a syndrome real - or that turns death from a frightening accident,an unfortunate end to a night of heavy drinking, or a ridiculous overdose into a series. And that means the killer, too, has a label. Three men are dead, three colleagues with a shared past, a past also shared by the one person Kellen Stewart would trust with her life: pathologist Lee Adams. Suspect number one.

Reviews
Patricia Cornwell rewritten by Sylvia Plath ...Sunday Herald

far more than a taut, nerve racking thriller. Probably the best read of this autumn's crop ...Val McDermid Manchester Evening News

A fine book, one that transcends genre labelling. ...Andrew Greig

Powerful and gripping… proof that Scott is much more than just the Patricia Cornwell of the animal world. ...Maxim Jakubowski The Guardian

Scott's writing is powerful and subtle, he characters have depth, the plot is impeccable and the shiver count high.…propels her into the front rank of British crime writers ...Marcel Berlins, The Times

Scott writes with a forensic precision and attention to detail that never gets in the way of the story's momentum and, as deaths accumulate, this becomes, like the best crime novels, a brilliant puzzle you itch to solve before anyone else. The trouble is, you get so close to the central characters, it's not easy to divorce yourself from the action ...Victoria Moore Mail on Sunday

Scott takes her readers up the cliff with her until they reach a ledge and then she gives them a nasty shock. What keeps you from falling off the side of the novel is the strong blue rope of her prose, a stylish voice, unusually poetic for crime fiction… She also gives us a credible, one might even say righteous murderer and a pretty scary denouement with a crescendo finish. ...Susie Maguire The Scotsman
